Stefan Bumbea

My name is Stefan Bumbea (pronounced shtefan, like shnitzel). My pronouns are he/him. Fun fact, it comes from Ancient Greek and it used to mean crown, so that at least explains my attitude.

I do my part as a senior software developer, trying to put my knowledge of Laravel and PHP (but not only) to good use!

I aim to offer the best delivery of features in a way that we avoid tech debt and features can be easily extended in the future.

I am a happily married Romanian, living in, you won’t believe it, Romania. So basically being Eastern European i wore tracksuits and squat all the time.

Recently (well, as recent as three years gets you) I became a father of an amazing and incredibly energetic three year-old son.

Other than that i am still very much a gamer to the core.

I’ve been a software developer for quite some years already, being a full Symfony developer for my formative years, then switching to other frameworks as well.

I also have a hate/love relationship with devops, did quite a bit of CI/CD and Terraform pipelines/provisioning throughout the years, which involved mainly a lot of cursing and employment of the dark arts.

I am passionate about making software as good and robust as possible, while keeping the codebase as simple and cursive as possible.

And lastly, for the past two years i’ve been trying out AI agents much more, slowly understanding little by little how to min/max their efficiency in pairing on code.

I think most of all, at this stage in my life, i want to develop my social skills, especially leadership and management.

I see myself gravitating towards responsibility positions, managerial or leading. Fun fact about technical managers, they still like to code.

Help with technical expertise, especially regarding web services, architecture, microservices. And whenever i cannot answer a question perfectly (we are humans after all, like Rag’n’Bone Man would say) i will nevertheless try to find the perfect solution.

Please bear with me, sometimes i look absent but in truth i am thinking about stuff, i am an overthinker (un)fortunately, but i am not ignoring, only thinking on the best way to help/respond.

Just keep in mind my schedule in EEST, so if i’m not responding there is a definite chance i’m either sleeping or taking care of my son (or doing chores, that can also be a case).

I am involved in technical discussions (not very big on too many meetings, sometimes they distract). I usually tend to do things on my own, at my own pace but that’s just because i am an async person.

Any way is fine by me. The only preference i have is for it to be as direct and argumented as possible. This way we can all grow together and i promise the same directness in return.

Prefer PHP, but i can work in many languages as well. Just OOP languages are my preference, don’t like functional. I love/hate Java, love/hate Python (being an AI/ML college program graduate i worked a lot with Python), hate/love C/C++, hate C# to the extreme (i call it Temu Java), but i somehow love PHP (arguably the language i should be hating. Fun fact i used to hate its guts until we connected on a spiritual level).

Within the EEST timezone i try to be as flexible as possible so i can respond until 17:00 ET (when i usually try to go to sleep.)
