Lubna Asha

Hi! My name is Lubna Asha and I’m an intern under the QA team. My name is pronounced Loob-na. My last name is actually pronounced Eh-sha. Apparently, because my mom was new to America, she didn’t realize she should write an E and not an A. Either way, I go by Lubna :)

To help support Jeff Luna as a QA testing intern. My goal is to ensure that the various aspects of a product work as intended by a user as the product gets built. I will be working closely with Jeff to test out all the core features of a product and to find any edge cases that can happen while making sure that any prior features still function as intended.

I was born and raised in New York City, a place known for opportunity and growth, while my ethnicity is from Bangladesh. Some of my hobbies include cooking/baking even though it unfortunately doesn’t always go as planned. But if it doesn’t work the first time, that means I just have to try again! I also love building Lego’s and 3D wooden puzzles/models. Both hobbies take time and patience but the outcome is always fruitful. I love spending time with friends and family which I know is a given but I know as I get older, not only will I have less time for such occurrences, but I’d also have many more responsibilities. That’s why I want to enjoy any moment I can get because you never know what the future holds.

I currently tutor at a program called Rocket Club in NYC, usually 1st grade to 6th with some occurrences of teaching kindergartners. This experience has been very rewarding when I see a student able to learn a new skill or master a previous skill they have been working hard on.

A fun fact about me is that I have an identical twin sister. When we were younger we would always try to trick our guests on who’s who. To add on, I love a good TV show, specifically Korean dramas and I am a big foodie!

I graduated from a city university of New York with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minor in Mathematics. During school, I was the type of student who always got good grades and put in her best effort. But I wish I took the time to try and learn new things and apply for classes I knew nothing in. I was afraid of challenging myself because of the possibility of failure. After college, I knew I wanted to stay in the tech career but I never knew what I wanted to focus on. Thus, when my older sister, who worked at a partnering company with CadenceOneFive, sent me the link to apply for the QA testing internship, I knew this was my chance to not only learn something new but also to prove to myself that I am capable of more than I think. This entire experience is all new to me so I have a lot to learn but I hope I can successfully get through it.

Right now, my main learning goal is to develop stronger skills in Quality Assurance testing. I’ve always been told that I’m detail-oriented, and I want to apply that strength by learning how to identify issues, understand how to create test cases, going about those cases, and contribute to delivering well-made products. I’m excited to take on tasks that will help me grow in this area and build a solid foundation in QA practices.

I’m still figuring this out for myself! Not knowing what I want to focus on in the future is scary but that’s why I’m excited to be part of this internship and learn new skills and see if QA testing is fit for me. Some time during and after this internship I will be learning about Data Analytics, something also completely new to me, through a nonprofit organization called COOP. I felt like this was the second and appropriate step in figuring out what my career interests are and to work towards growing as a person.

Communication is key. I may bombard you with questions and ask for clarity even if it seems redundant/obvious because it helps me best understand what’s going on and what’s expected of me. I would appreciate any feedback when it comes to learning and guiding me if I make a mistake.

Always try my best! Perfection is hard to obtain but I will try to go above and beyond in any task I’m given.

I don’t have a lot of tech knowledge, especially all the jargon. I will require some googling/explanations to best understand what’s going on.

I think the best thing I could ask for is patience as I learn new things. I do get anxious and nervous easily, especially when it comes to big tasks.

I definitely prefer to listen to everyone speak before me. I don’t like being put on the spot unless necessary but I do appreciate being able to raise my hand and comfortably talk when I feel is best.

I would prefer feedback on Slack first and then video-call unless it’s an immediate thing that needs to be brought to my attention. If its the latter case, feedback as soon as possible would be better.

I think when giving feedback to anyone it’s always important to highlight both glows and grows instead of only grows.

I am in the Eastern Time Zone and I am working from 8am to 12pm ET.

To anyone reading this, thank you for making it all the way through!
